Airport police

Airport police

Airport Police units are generally Law enforcement agencies assigned to perform law enforcement functions at airports. In some cases, they are branches of larger general purposes agencies. Other variations include dedicated agencies, combined police/fire agencies and even military units. In the United Kingdom it is the local territorial (geographic) police service's responsibility to provide armed patrols to that airport, for example the Metropolitan Police Service have dedicated a specialist unit SO18 to London Heathrow Airport

Airport police agencies are vital components of the international aviation security system but do not, in themselves, perform all aspects of airport security. Some examples are Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority Police, Los Angeles Airport Police, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.
