Andorran euro coins

Andorran euro coins have not yet been designed. Andorra does not have an official currency. However, the government of Andorra plans to produce euro coins for use as currency to replace the French franc and Spanish peseta which had been used as "de facto" legal tender in Andorra before the introduction of the euro made these currencies obsolete in their home countries.Fact|date=September 2008

Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican City State are the only non-European Union member states to issue their own euro coins (which are minted by France and Italy). These three countries obtained this right because they had previous monetary agreements with France (in the case of Monaco) and Italy (in the cases of San Marino and Vatican City) on the use of their respective currency as legal tender. Andorra, however, did not have a formal monetary agreement with either Spain or France, possibly due to the fact that it did not even have a comprehensive constitution up until 1993.Fact|date=September 2008

Andorra is currently in negotiations with the European Union on a monetary agreement which would grant it the right to mint a limited number of euro coins. The negotiations are still ongoing as of November 2006 and are expected to last for at least two more years; the reason is that the EU expects Andorra to comply with related EU legislation and security measures before minting coins.
